How does surfing the web anonymously at 93Gbps sound ? Pretty damn good ain't it ? We all crave that kind of speed, and the most tantalizing thing is that it seems like a dream: beyond reality or reach.
That's exactly what a group of six academics have developed. This network is being currently called :
HORNET:High-speed Onion Routing at the Network Layer
Unlike the current tor browser (Onion browser) which encrypts the data passing through them multiple times which causes it to become exceedingly slow, Hornet is capable of handling 2 million users on its network at 93Gbps high speed while maintaining anonymity and privacy. Who doesn't love being inconspicuous? Having your identity hidden and surreptitious on the internet could be pretty resourceful at times.
"[HORNET] is designed to be highly efficient," reads the paper, "instead of keeping state at each relay, connection state (such as onion layer decryption keys) is carried within packet headers, allowing intermediate nodes to quickly forward traffic for large numbers of clients."
But does this high speed cause a rift in security? The answer is no. Researches have stated that Hornet does not keep per-session states thus allowing it to maintain high speed and allowing Hornet to be less susceptible of confirmation attacks (used for unmasking Tor surfers) .
